Peter and Jessica founded the Chrysalis Seed Trust in 1996 after Peter received a vision to support Christian artists in Aotearoa New Zealand.
After receiving this vision, we researched the Christian arts sector and realised that whilst there were numerous Christian visual arts networks and organisations available internationally, none existed in New Zealand.
At the time Jessica and I were studying overseas to work cross-culturally. We returned to New Zealand in order to set up Chrysalis Seed Trust.
Twelve years later we are encouraged by how the Trust has evolved and developed, with a solid base of support in the wider contemporary arts community.
Careful consideration of art history suggests that Christian artists have at times led creative innovation and been a prophetic voice in society. In New Zealand, there are many Christian artists who are actively involved in the wider arts community.
I have always enjoyed making art from an early age. Fortunately my parents thought that it was very important that I learnt to do other things, otherwise I would have done nothing else. Nowadays as I work on a painting I feel like the famous runner Eric Liddell. I feel energised and invigorated.
In recent days I have happened upon some new techniques quite by providence. Moreover, they are servants to my beloved themes of people, landscapes, abstracts and issues.
