FilmTiki is on a search for a 'How to' guide for their new site and what better way to show it, than through the power of film. Therefore, with this in mind, we have decided to invite all filmmakers to come up with a 90-120 second clip on 'How to FilmTiki'. The film will be screened on the front page and as a tutorial during FilmTiki's tour of major international film festivals throughout 2009, and feature in all FilmTiki's major marketing material. The winner will receive:
- $1500 cash
- One-year free subscription to FilmTiki.com Pro Account (normally $NZ200/year)
Essentially the film will simply explain not only how to use FilmTiki's Wiki and Tool, but the benefits and possibilities that it offers to filmmakers. Submissions are welcome from anywhere in the world, though entrants must be over the age of 18.

With a main focus on artists working in the US, but open to every artist in the world, the Skylark Prize seeks to recognize outstanding quality and diversity in the arts.
Founded in 2007 in conjunction with The Art Fund Corporation, Skylark Media Group works in partnership with artists and assists in building their careers through communication tools such as catalogs, books, consulting services and exhibition programs.
The Skylark Prize will be awarded to an artist whose work has proven to be innovative, while consistent in quality. The award - a sculpture, designed by internationally acclaimed artist Richard Erdman - will be accompanied by:
- Fellowship: An exclusive 6 week fully paid Fellowship (including trips to Beijing and Shanghai), at the prestigious Sias International University (Zhengzhou, China)
- Cash: Cash prize of $2,000
- Exhibit: A solo exhibition at Skylark Fine Art Gallery in Los Angeles -- located in the heart of LA's design district)
- Catalog: A catalog produced for the artist by Skylark Press
- Editorial: Skylark's media sponsor Fabrik Magazine will run an editorial n the artist's work.
Two additional six week Fellowships at Sias International University will be awarded. The work of five additional artists will be chosen for a group show at Skylark Fine Art Gallery. A separate catalog will be produced for these artists. Skylark's media sponsor Fabrik Magazine will run editorials on the artists' work.
The 2008 Skylark Prize Competition is open to all artists worldwide, age 18 and older. All works must be original. Entries in the following media categories will be accepted: Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media, Digital Art, Animation Art, Printmaking, Watercolor, Photography, Multimedia/Video Art, Ceramics, Sculpture, Installations.
Entries may be submitted in either slide or CD/DVD format and should conform to the guidelines noted on the competition website.

Entries close 5 December
- First prize: $5000
- People’s choice: $500
- 3 Merit prizes: $250 each
The organizers say "The rationale behind the prize is that there seem to be so many awards in the North Island but much less in the South Island, hence our wish to help and foster those artists resident in the South Island.
"This is the second year for the prize. Last year we had around 80 entries, with artists from Invercargill to Nelson entering, with the bulk from Central Otago – this year we hope to achieve more."

Entry deadline: 1 February
The first biennial Wai Art Portrait Exhibition will be open to all New Zealand artists and will require a portrait of a New Zealand resident person along with a short written explanation on the reasons why that person was chosen by the artist.
This exhibition will allow the artist to recognize someone influential and important in his or her life. So often we fail to express our appreciation, our affection and even our love for those who mean so much to us.
Up to three entries are allowed per artist.

Southland, Nelson & Bays, Christchurch, Northland, Taranaki and West Coast & Buller entries open 31 October - 20 February
This year, enhancements to the art awards programme means that regional communities as well as artists benefit from the programme.
Three finalists per region will be selected and profiled. The winner receives $2,000, first runner up $1,000 and second runner up $500.
Community initiatives will be supported in each of the 18 regions rather than via one centralised charity. Finalists will be asked to nominate one of three pre-selected charitable initiatives they wish to see supported.
Our independent panel of judges will select three finalists and then the public gets to vote on the winner. Details of the charitable initiative the artist has nominated will be included as part of the voting process.
The winning artwork, along with the first and second runners up, will be auctioned at the annual Yellow Pages Group Arts Charity Auction. All of the money raised will go towards a new charitable trust, which will distribute funds for local initiatives. The community initiative that benefits in each region will be the one chosen by the winning artist.
